For a brand new blogger, there is nothing more heart-breaking than waiting for readers to show up or comments to start appear. Even then there is another wrench in the works left - spam. Ask me, I know all about the vexing situation of begging friends, neighbours, colleagues and practically every Tom, Dick and Harry you meet to visit my blog. I am referring to monkeyshine nutworks.
So here are 2 tips to get more readers and get some comments too:
(1) Make Humourous comments on other blogs:
There is nothing like Humour to promote your blog. So, look around, track down a few (several) blogs which write on similar or allied topics and start posting comments. Here the trick is to make sure your blog name appears in the comment - even if it is a 'no follow' link. Keep in mind that by humour I don't mean offensive taunts or making fun of someone else. Your comments have to be appropriate, genuine and provoke a smile.
(2) Convert the Spam comments to genuine ones:
Everyone hates spam, but would like to enjoy the benefits that spam do (or are supposed to) bring. In my own blog, I delete almost all the comments by spammers. I only leave out (in actually) one or two which can be turned into a funny, funky one. When in concerns spam, the point (1) doesn't hold good. You are allowed to poke fun at the comments, if not the spammers.
But there is another way new bloggers thirsty for traffic can actually take advantage of Spam. Spammers generally post comments like
- I liked your blog very much and I am going to subscribe to your RSS Feed right away.
- You are doing a great job. I would like to keep reading more.
- I loved your views. This information was so useful to me and very timely.
Yes, this is a sneaky way of doing things. I haven't personally tried it. But it sounds like a workable idea.
After all, everything is fair in love and blog.
